history

Vacov was founded in the course of the colonization of Strakonice Land . According to tradition, a church is said to have been built on the Vacov hill in the place of a hermit chapel in 1193. Furthermore, the village is said to have been founded in 1252 and at that time a landed aristocratic seat existed.

The first written mention of the village was in 1352. There was a fortress in Vacov. A pastor has been recorded in Vacov since 1384. During the Hussite Wars , the Catholic priest was driven out and the church was ruined. The manor house probably became extinct during this time and the estate was merged with Přečín. In the place of the extinct festivals, the Church of St. Laurentius and the rectory were built. From 1513 Wilhelm Přech von Čestice and later the Vladiken Kotz von Dobř belonged to the owners of Přečín . Wenzel Kotz von Dobř had the church building renewed in 1588 and a 45 hundredweight bell was cast. The parish was Protestant until the Thirty Years War; then it went out and was looked after from Dobrš and Čestice. In 1655 the owner of the Čestice estate, Leopold Claretto, filed a complaint about his pastor Jan Jakub Bramburský. The cantor and teacher Martin Tejnohorský from Vacov also testified as a witness in the trial pending in Strakonitz against the clergyman who was developing into a tyrant; Tejnohorský is the first demonstrable teacher in Vacov. In 1685 Ferdinand Franz Leopold Count Wrtba acquired the Přečín estate. He sold it on July 25, 1700 to Ferdinand Prince zu Schwarzenberg . In 1709 a pastor was reinstated in Vacov. In 1757 the church burned down; it was rebuilt in 1784. The princes of Schwarzenberg owned the estate. In 1815 they had a new school house built for one-class teaching. After the death of Prince Joseph II of Schwarzenberg , his son Johann Adolf II inherited him in 1833. In 1840 Watzau / Wacow consisted of 10 houses with 77 inhabitants. The parish church of St. Nicholas, the parish, the school and the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. There was also a retreat in the village. Watzau was vicarage for Cabus (Čábuze) , Hora (Benešova Hora) , Lhota (Lhota nad Rohanovem) , Miřetitz (Miřetice) , Mladikau (Mladíkov) , Přetschin (Prečín) , Rohanow (Rohanov) , Wrbitz ( Vrbice ) , Lhota ptačowa ( Ptákova Lhota) , Nespitz (Nespice) , Žiaro (Žár) and Wlkonitz (Vlkonice) . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the allodial estate Přetschin including Dobř and Rohanow.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Vacov / Watzau 1850 a district of the municipality Přečinov in the district administration Strakonice and the judicial district Volyně . In 1874, three-class classes began at the school, which was also attended by the children from Lhota nad Rohanovem, Bošice, Hora Benešova, Nespice and Žár. Benešova Hora was trained in the same. Four years later there were four classes, and from 1889 five classes. A post office has existed in Vacov since 1880. In 1893 a volunteer fire brigade was formed in Vavov on the initiative of the Fürstlich Schwarzenberg forestry assistant Eduard Steinocher. In 1901 a school was opened in Lhota nad Rohanovem and in 1903 in Nespice. A school branch was opened in Čábuze in 1909. In 1913 Vacov broke away from Přečín and formed a separate community with the district of Miřetice. In 1927 the village was electrified. After a community school was established in Vacov on February 1, 1939, a new schoolhouse was built between 1940 and 1944. The old school building was demolished in 1947. On January 19, 1948, the Vacov citizen school was downgraded to a primary school. On February 1, 1949, the municipality Vacov was assigned to the Okres Vimperk and at the same time Vlkonice was incorporated. After the dissolution of the Okres Vimperk, Vacov became part of the Okres Prachatice on July 1, 1960. In 1964 Mladíkov was reassigned from Čábuze to Vacov. In 1967 a nine-class elementary school was established in Vacov, and at the end of the 1967/68 school year the small schools in Benešova Hora, Lhota nad Rohanovem and Nespice were closed. In the 20th century, Vacov grew due to its location at the crossroads and expanded to Vlkonice and Miřetice. At the same time, the remote towns lost most of their inhabitants. The school building was renovated in 1996. In 2004 the district Vacov had 80 inhabitants, the most populous district was Vlkonice with 505 inhabitants. There is a primary school and a post office in Vacov.
