Saint-Gonnery ( Breton : Sant-Goneri ; Gallo: Saent-Goneri ) is a French municipality with 1090 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .
geography
Saint-Gonnery is located in the north of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.
Neighboring communities are Hémonstoir in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the north, Saint-Maudan and Loudéac in the east, Gueltas in the south, Saint-Gérand in the west and Croixanvec in the north-west.
The most important road connection is the D700 / D768 (formerly Route nationale 168 ), which runs right through the municipality.
The most important bodies of water are the Canal de Nantes à Brest , the River Oust , the Rigole d'Hilvern supply canal for the Nantes-Brest Canal and the Le Clio stream . For several kilometers, these waters also form the municipal and departmental boundaries.

history
The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French Pays Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Loudieg area (French Pays de Loudéac) and shares its history. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801, Saint-Gonnery belonged to the canton of Noyal.
