Guémené-sur-Scorff ( Breton : Ar Gemene ) is a French municipality with 1061 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Roi Morvan Communauté .
geography
Guémené-sur-Scorff is located in the northwest of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays du Roi Morvan.
Neighboring communities are Locmalo in the north, east and south and Ploërdut in the west.
The place itself is the intersection of different streets. The most important of these road connections are the D782 (from Rosporden to Pontivy ), the D1 (from NW to SE) and the D3 (from N to S). National roads 24 and 164 are a long way from Guémené-sur-Scorff.
The most important body of water is the Scorff River . In part, this also forms the municipal boundary.
A railway line of the Chemins de fer du Morbihan ran through the village .

history
Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Bourlet (French: Pays Pourlet) area and shares its history. Guémené-sur-Scorff has been the capital of the canton of the same name since 1793.
Attractions
The town has the following sights:
- Ruins of the Château der Princes de Guéméné
- A prehistoric spring ( French fontaine préhistorique de Kermore ) is located east of the village. From the D782 (road) Guémené-sur-Scorff to Pontivy, after 10 kilometers there is a junction to the town of Kermore
- Church Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse (with fountain from the 18th century) from the 19th century
- Cemetery (since 1791)
- several houses worth seeing: in the Rue Mazé (5th century), Le Cunff (18th century) and the Maison du Sénéchal (also 18th century)
- new castle which now houses the town hall
- Parts of the city fortifications
