Ploërdut ( Breton : Pleurdud ) is a French municipality with 1216 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Roi Morvan Communauté .

geography

Ploërdut is located in the northwest of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and is part of the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Neighboring municipalities are the municipality of Mellionnec in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the north, Langoëlan in the northeast and east, Locmalo and Guémené-sur-Scorff in the southeast, Lignol in the south, Saint-Caradec-Trégomel in the southwest and Le Croisty , Saint-Tugdual and Plouray to the west.

The place itself is away from important thoroughfares. Two kilometers north of Ploërdut, the D1 runs from Plouray to Guémené-sur-Scorff across the municipality. The important national road connection N125 passes around twenty kilometers north of the community.

The most important bodies of water are the rivers Aër and Scorff and the streams Le Cosquer , Le Gohello , Kerfandol , Toul Fallo , Pont de Saint-Martin , and Kerustang . In some cases, these also form the municipal boundary. There are also several ponds in the municipality. There are numerous large pieces of forest on the community area. The four largest are Bois de Lochrist , Bois de Kerservant , Bois de Quénépozen and Bois du Launay .

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Bourlet (French: Pays Pourlet) area and shares its history. Ploërdut was the capital of the canton of Ploërdut from 1793 until its dissolution in 1801. Since then, the community has belonged to the canton of Guémené-sur-Scorff.
