Mannhai is a Finnish stoner-doom band from Helsinki that was formed in 1999.

history

The band was founded at the end of 1999 by bassist Olli-Pekka Laine (ex- Amorphis ) and guitarist Ilkka Laaksomaa. Shortly afterwards, drummer Mikko Pietinen joined them. The band recorded their first demo within four months. During the demo, the former Xysma singer Joanitor Muurinen became aware of the band and joined them shortly afterwards. In addition, the band reached a contract with Spinefarm Records .

The debut album The Sons of Yesterday's Black Grouse was released in 2001 on this label in Finland and in the rest of Europe on Nuclear Blast . In 2002 the next album was released with Evil Under the Sun , but this time without the support of Nuclear Blast, so the album was only available as an import. After the publication, a few isolated appearances followed. In 2004 the third album was released with The Exploder . The album featured another ex-Amorphis member, keyboardist Kasper Martenson. After the release, singer Muurinen left the band and was replaced by Honcho singer Trond Skog. This was followed by a tour through Europe in April 2005 with The Awesome Machine . During the tour, Skog left the band again, so he was replaced by Pasi Koskinen , also a former Amorphis member. Towards the end of June 2006, the next album Hellroad Caravan was released on Dockyard 1 . In 2006, the single Spaceball topped the charts for a week.

style

The band plays a mixture of stoner rock and doom metal, with some borrowings from the blues . In terms of sound, the music can be compared to bands like Spiritual Beggars , The Who and Kyuss .
