Saint-Servant ( Breton : Sant-Servant-of-Oud , Gallo: Saent-Seran ) is a French municipality with 811 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .
geography
Saint-Servant is in the northeast of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays de Josselin.
Neighboring communities are Guillac in the north and east, Val d'Oust with Quily in the southeast, Lizio in the south, Cruguel in the southwest and Guégon in the west.
The place itself is on the D143. The D4 from the N166 to the N24 , which runs west of Saint-Servant, is the most important regional road link. The most important supraregional connection is the N24, which runs just a few kilometers north of the municipality. The closest connections to these are at Brangoyan and east of Josselin .
The most important waters are the river Oust , which is channeled here called Canal de Nantes à Brest , and the stream Crée Cocherel . These partially form the municipal boundary. There are also numerous small ponds in the municipality. A significant part of the community area is covered by small forest areas.
history
The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the area Reter Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais oriental) and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 to 1801, Saint-Servant was part of the canton of Guégon. Since then, the place has been assigned to the canton of Josselin.
