The canton Ploërmel (Breton canton Ploermael ) is a French constituency in the arrondissement Pontivy , in the department of Morbihan and in the region of Brittany ; its main town is Ploërmel .

history

The canton was founded on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, six municipalities belonged to the canton of Ploërmel. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, all communes of the previous cantons Josselin , La Trinité-Porhoët and Mauron , the commune of Lantillac from the canton of Rohan and the commune of Monterrein from the canton of Malestroit to the canton of Ploërmel changed in 2015 .

The canton is located in the northeast of the Morbihan department on the border with the Ille-et-Vilaine and Côtes-d'Armor departments .
