Lohe (Uetersen)
Lohe ( Low German Loh ) was an independent village, which was incorporated into the district of Pinneberg as a quarter of Uetersen from the 18th century .
The village of Lohe belonged to the administration of the Uetersen monastery and was first mentioned as lo in 1285 by a deed of donation from Heinrich IV . The name probably comes from the Latin word lucus and means grove or light forest . The place was on the edge of the Geest to Seestermüher Marsch on an old military road , today's B 431 , and bordered on the place Groß Nordende .
The inhabitants lived mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry. Part of the population worked as craftsmen. There was a wheel maker , several joiners , blacksmiths and carpenters . In the middle of the 17th century there were 27 houses with around 125 inhabitants. Later the settlements of Katzhagen and Kreuzmoor were added and the place became a quarter of Uetersen. The population rose to around 230 residents.
In 1893, several houses in Katzhagen were destroyed by a large fire and not rebuilt. In the years that followed, the former town was completely incorporated and its status as a quarter was revoked. Today only a few old houses and the street name Lohe in Uetersen remind of the former place.
