Guégon ( Breton : Gwegon , Gallo: Gégon ) is a French municipality with 2287 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .
geography
Guégon is located in the northern half of the eastern part of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays de Josselin.
Neighboring communities are Forges de Lanouée with Lanouée in the north, Josselin and Guillac in the northeast, Saint-Servant in the east, Cruguel and Guéhenno in the south, Buléon and Lantillac in the west, and Pleugriffet in the northwest.
Due to its neighborhood to Josselin, the place is close to roads for national traffic. The regional road links that are important for the municipality are the D126 between Plumelec and Josselin, the D122 from Cruguel to Saint-Gobrien and the D4 from le Roc Saint-André to Josselin. The N 24 runs through the municipality with two connections near Le Borne and Guégon.
The most important bodies of water are the river Oust , which is called Canal de Nantes à Brest and the streams Chênaie , Sedon , Vieux Moulin and Ville Oger . These partially form the municipal boundary. There are also some small ponds in the municipality. Only a small part of the municipal area is covered by forest areas. The two larger forest areas are the Bois de Coët By and le Quéninquet .

history
The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the area Reter Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais oriental) and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 to 1801 Guégon was the capital of its own canton. Since then, the municipality has been assigned to the canton of Josselin.
