Meslan ( Breton : Mêlann ) is a French municipality with 1424 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Roi Morvan Communauté .

geography

Meslan is located in the northwest of the Morbihan department on the border with the Finistère department and is part of the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Neighboring municipalities are Priziac in the north, Berné in the east, the municipalities in the Finistère department of Guilligomarc'h in the south and Querrien in the southwest, Lanvénégen in the west and Le Faouët in the northwest.

The place itself is, despite numerous streets that lead through it, a bit away from important thoroughfares. A few kilometers west of Meslan, the D769 runs from Saint-Pol-de-Léon to Lorient . The most important national road connection is the N165 further south. Meslan had a station on the Chemins de fer du Morbihan .

The most important bodies of water are the Ellé River and the Noguette , Kerloas , Kervazo and La Gare streams . In some cases, these also form the municipal and departmental borders. There are several ponds in the municipality.

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Bourlet (French: Pays Pourlet) area and shares its history. Meslan has belonged to the canton of Le Faouët since 1793.
