Locminé ( Breton : Logunec'h ) is a commune with 4332 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Morbihan department in the region of Brittany .

geography

Locminé is located in the center of the Morbihan department and is part of the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring communities are Moréac in the north, Bignan in the east, Moustoir-Ac in the south and Plumelin in the west.

Locminé is the intersection of numerous streets. The N 24 passes north of the municipality . At Locminé there are three connections / partial connections to these.

The river Tarun flows in a south-westerly direction through the municipality and in parts forms the municipal boundary to Plumelin. The three hectare large pond Étang du Bois d'Amour is also worth mentioning .

Until 1947 Locminé was a small railway junction of the Chemins de fer du Morbihan , which had its workshops here.

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Baod (French: Pays de Baud) area and shares its history. Locminé has been the capital of its own canton since 1793. During the Chouannerie , an uprising of loyal Catholic Christians in Brittany in the context of the French Revolution , Locminé was the scene of two battles (Batailles de Locminé) between Chouans and republican troops in 1796 and 1799 .
