Saint-Gérand ( Breton : Sant-Jelan ) is a French municipality with 1115 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .
geography
Saint-Gérand is located in the north of the Morbihan department and is part of the Pays de Pontivy.
Neighboring municipalities are Croixanvec in the north, Saint-Gonnery in the east, Gueltas in the south-east, Noyal-Pontivy in the south and south-west, Neulliac in the west and Kergrist in the north-west.
The most important road connection is the D700 / D768 (formerly Route nationale 168 ), which runs right through the municipality. The Saint-Brieuc – Pontivy railway ends today shortly before the Saint-Gérand train station, an industrial company is still being served.
The most important bodies of water are the Canal de Nantes à Brest and a few ponds spread across the municipality.

history
The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Kernev (French Cornouaille ) and within this region to the area Bro Loudieg (French Pays de Loudéac) and shares its history. It was created in 1839 by splitting the former municipality of Noyal-Pontivy into five municipalities.
