Lanvénégen ( Breton : Lannejenn ) is a French municipality with 1165 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Roi Morvan Communauté .

geography

Lanvénégen is located in the northwest of the Morbihan department on the border with the Finistère department and is part of the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Neighboring municipalities are Le Faouët in the northeast, Meslan in the southeast, the municipality of Querrien in the Finistère department in the south and Guiscriff in the west and northwest.

The place itself is, despite numerous streets that lead through it, a bit away from important thoroughfares. A few kilometers east of Lanvénégen, the D769 runs from Saint-Pol-de-Léon to Lorient . The most important national road connection is the N165 further south.

The most important bodies of water are the Ellé , Inam and Naïc rivers and the Elise and St. Antoine streams . In some cases, these also form the municipal and departmental borders. There are several ponds in the municipality. The kaolin ponds near Kerhouriou are the largest in terms of area.

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Kernev (French Cornouaille ) and within this region to the Aven region (French also) and shares its history. Lanvénégen was the capital of the canton of Lanvénégen from 1793 until its dissolution in 1801. Since then, the place has been assigned to the canton of Le Faouët.
