history
Rohan is located in the former vice county of Porhoët and is the ancestral home of the Rohan family . The seigneurie was created in 1120 through the division of the estate between Geoffroy and Alain de Porhoët . The latter seized the right bank of the river (except for Ploërmel ) and the area around Josselin, and built his castle here. In 1604, King Henry IV elevated Rohan to duchy, but the new duke, Henri II. De Rohan , then moved his seat to Pontivy to the Château de Pontivy , which his grandfather Jean II. De Rohan had built.
