Locmalo ( Breton : Lokmac'hloù ) is a French municipality with 904 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Roi Morvan Communauté

geography

Locmalo is located in the northwest of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Neighboring municipalities are Langoëlan in the north, Séglien in the north and northeast, Guern in the east, Bubry in the southeast, Persquen in the south and Lignol , Guémené-sur-Scorff and Ploërdut in the west.

The place itself is far away from important thoroughfares on the D782 from Rosporden to Pontivy . The most important regional road connection D768, which connects the N124 with the N125, passes more than twenty kilometers away in the east.

The most important bodies of water are the Scorff and Sarre rivers and the Le Chapelain , Goah Mout , Colin and Lanhouellic streams . In some cases, these also form the municipal boundary. There are also several ponds in the municipality. In the northeast of the municipality, large parts of the forest are covered. The largest contiguous forest is the Bois de Ménoray .

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Bourlet (French: Pays Pourlet) area and shares its history. Locmalo has belonged to the canton of Guémené-sur-Scorff since 1793.
