Bréhan ( Breton : Brehant-Loudieg ; Gallo: Berhaund-Lódeyac ) is a French municipality with 2305 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .

geography

Bréhan is located in the center of Brittany in the north of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are La Chèze and La Ferrière in the northeast, Plumieux , Saint-Étienne-du-Gué-de-l'Isle and Le Cambout in the east, Forges de Lanouée with Les Forges in the southeast, Pleugriffet in the southwest, Crédin and Rohan in the west as well Saint-Barnabé in the north-west.

The place is far away from roads for national traffic, as the communities in the north and east already belong to a different department. The next major road connection is around 20 kilometers northwest of the municipality.

The most important waters are the rivers Oust and Lié and the Canal de Nantes à Brest . The municipal boundary partially runs along these watercourses.

history

The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Sant-Brieg (French Pays de Saint-Brieuc) and within this region to the Bro Loudieg area (French Pays de Loudéac) and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801, Bréhan belonged to the canton of Brehan Loudeac.
