Gueltas ( Breton : Gweltaz ) is a French municipality with 512 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .

geography

Gueltas is located in the far north of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring communities are Saint-Gonnery in the north, Saint-Maudan and Rohan in the east, Crédin in the south-east, Kerfourn in the south-west, Noyal-Pontivy in the west and Saint-Gérand in the north-west , in the Côtes-d'Armor department .

The place is a bit away from roads for national traffic. The most important road connection is the D700 / D768 (formerly Route nationale 168 ), which passes north of the municipality. The D125 runs through the village itself from Rohan to Saint-Gérand.

The most important bodies of water are the Canal de Nantes à Brest and three reservoirs ( Étang aux Grebes , Étang de la Dame Noire and Étang du Château ) in the southwest of the municipality. The Forêt de Branguily as a large, contiguous piece of forest covers a significant part of the municipal area.

history

The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Kernev (French Cornouaille ) and within this region to the area Bro Loudieg (French Pays de Loudéac) and shares its history. It was created in 1839 by splitting the former municipality of Noyal-Pontivy into five municipalities.
