Plumelec ( Breton : Pluveleg ; Gallo: Plumelec ) is a French municipality with 2680 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . The inhabitants of the commune are called Méléciens .
location
Plumelec is located in the southern part of Brittany in the center of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.
Neighboring municipalities are Billio and Cruguel in the north, Lizio in the northeast, Sérent in the east, Trédion in the south, Plaudren in the southwest and west and Saint-Jean-Brévelay in the northwest.
Numerous streets cross in Plumelec. The most important regional transport connections are the D126 from Vannes to Josselin and the D778 from Vannes via Saint-Jean-Brévelay to Josselin. However, the roads for national traffic such as the N24 from Lorient to Rennes in the north and the N166 from Vannes to Ploërmel in the south are far away.
The Claie River is the municipality's main body of water. The municipal boundary runs partially along the river.

history
The district of Locmaria is mentioned in a document from the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Sulpice in 1115 as its property. Plumelec itself is first mentioned in 1426 under the name Ploemellec . Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the area of Reter Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais oriental) and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801, Plumelec formed its own canton. Since then, the municipality has been assigned to the canton of Saint-Jean-Brévelay.
