location

Guénin is located in the southern part of central Brittany and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are Pluméliau-Bieuzy with Pluméliau in the north, Évellys with Remungol in the northeast, Plumelin in the east, La Chapelle-Neuve in the southeast, Baud in the south and west, and Saint-Barthélemy in the northwest.

In north-south direction, the D 768 runs west of the municipality, the connection from Pontivy to Auray . South of Guénin, the RN 24 runs from Lorient to Rennes . The river Ével flows through the middle of the municipality .

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Baod (French: Pays de Baud) area and shares its history. The place name is derived from Saint-Guénin , who was Bishop of Vannes in the 7th century.
