history

The place name is derived from the Breton language . The Breton word remed , in today's French language remède , means "remedy"; the Breton word holl means “all”. Remed-holl , panacea, became Remungol.

Remungol was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. Viscount Alain VI. de Rohan (1232-1304) acquired 1273 lands in Remungol. The seigneuries of that time were: Le Breuil, Kergrois, Kerveillo and La Madeleine. In 1387 Remungol appeared in a list of parishes in the Pays de Vannes, which at that time corresponded to a bishopric of the diocese of Brittany.

The former northern neighboring community Moustoir-Remungol was once only called Moustoir and belonged to Remungol as the so-called Trève . Over time, Remungol lost more and more influence on Moustoir, which in 1790 became an independent community called Moustoir-Remungol to differentiate it from Moustoir-Ac , located south of Locminés .

In 1791 the pastor of Remungol fled to Spain , his successor was murdered by counterrevolutionary Chouans . In 1793 Remungol received in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government. Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Baod (French: Pays de Baud) area and shares its history. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801, Remungol belonged to the canton of Pluméliau. Since then it has been assigned to the canton of Locminé.

Attractions

On the church square at the edge of the cemetery is a Flurkreuz of granite, which is 4.3 meters high and was built in the 16th century. It shows images of Christ on the cross with Saints Mathilde and Mary Magdalene on the obverse and the Virgin and Child surrounded by two apostles on the reverse . The cross was classified as a Monument historique (historical monument) in 1930 .

The holy spring Fontaine Sainte-Julitte was established in the 16th century in an alley east of the church. It is bordered at right angles by walls on which there are several statues. There is also a statue of Julianus von Brioude by the basin . The source was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques in 1934 ( inscrit MH ).
