Neulliac ( Breton : Neulieg ) is a French municipality with 1412 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .

geography

Neulliac is located in the very north of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring communities are the Commune nouvelle Guerlédan in the Côtes-d'Armor department with the Commune déléguée Mûr-de-Bretagne in the north, Kergrist in the northeast, Saint-Gérand in the east, Noyal-Pontivy in the southeast, Pontivy in the south and southwest, Cléguérec in the West and Saint-Aignan in the north-west.

Due to its location north of the city of Pontivy, the place is close to roads for national traffic. Neulliac itself is on the D767 from Pontivy to Lannion . The most important road connections are the D700 / D768 (formerly Route nationale 168 ), which passes several kilometers southeast of the municipality and the N164 in the north.

The most important bodies of water are the Blavet River and the Kergal and Perchénic streams . At the same time, these partially form the municipal and departmental borders. In the southeast of the municipality are the Étangs du Roz (ponds of Le Roz) on the Canal de Nantes à Brest . There are also numerous smaller ponds in the municipality.

history

The municipality historically belongs to the Breton region of Kernev (French Cornouaille ) and within this region to the area Bro Pondi (French Pays de Pontivy) and shares its history. Neulliac was the capital of the canton of Neulliac from 1793 until its dissolution in 1801. Since then, the municipality has belonged to the canton of Cléguérec. Parts of the former municipality were separated from Malguénac when the new municipality Le Sourn was formed in 1869.
