Saint-Laurent Chapel in Silfiac

Silfiac ( Breton : Silieg ) is a French commune with 434 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Morbihan department in the Brittany region . It belongs to the community association Pontivy Communauté .

geography

Silfiac is located in the north of the Morbihan department on the border with the Côtes-d'Armor department and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring are the municipalities of Lescouët-Gouarec in the north-west and Bon Repos sur Blavet with Perret in the north, Sainte-Brigitte in the north-east, Cléguérec in the south-east, Séglien in the south and Langoëlan in the west, in the Côtes-d'Armor department .

The place is close to roads for national traffic. The most important regional road connection is the D764 from Guingamp via Pontivy to Redon , which runs east of Silfiac from north to south through the municipality. The closest connection to the N164 is around twelve kilometers further north at Gouarec.

The most important bodies of water are the Crennard , Le Roz , Pont Samuel and Goah Lann streams . These partly form the commune and departmental borders. There are also some small ponds in the municipality. Only a small part of the municipal area is covered by forest areas. The largest is the Bois de Squel in the southeast of Silfiac.

history

Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro Gwened (French: Vannetais) and within this region to the Bro Bourlet (French: Pays Pourlet) area and shares its history. From 1793 to 1801 Silfiac belonged to the canton of Guémené. Since then it has been assigned to the canton of Cléguérec.
