Wenzel (also Wenzl) Zit , (born March 2, 1852 in Hudlice , southwest of Prague; † April 3, 1932 in Vienna ; last resident: Vienna 8th district Strozzigasse 42) was an Austria-Czech conductor and composer.

Life

Wenzel (also Wenzl) Zit saw the light of day on March 2, 1852 in Hudlice. On January 25, 1868, he joined the 47th Infantry Regiment (IR47) as a regimental music student. In the following years he passed through the military ranks until he was finally appointed to the regiment drum on September 6, 1875.

In May of 1876 he married Anna Tschekl in Viktring / Carinthia (* October 30, 1850, † April 23, 1917). From this marriage came the children Wilhelm Josef, Wenzel Rudolf, Rosina Albine, Carl Egon and Anton. On September 15, 1883 he was transferred to the 84th Infantry Regiment (IR84). In this regiment, too, he acted as a regiment drum until he was finally dismissed on June 30, 1891 as a sergeant because of “transferring to civil service” with “farewell”.

At the IR84 Karl Komzák junior (1850–1905) was Kapellmeister from 1883. Under this famous military musician, Wenzel Zit was the second conductor of the regimental music and his “right hand”.

Choirmaster Eduard Kremser soon brought him to the Vienna men's choir as concertmaster and orchestral accompanist . From June 1892 to June 1904, a total of 25 concerts by the so-called summer song tables and other appearances with the Viennese cycling band of Wenzel Zit are documented in the commemorative publication “Hundred Years of Vienna Men's Choir”. This also refers to the “happy idea” of the MGV “to use the best orchestras in Vienna - not least the Viennese cyclist band Zit - to participate in the summer tables”. . Zit also gave concerts at solstice celebrations of various choral societies - also at the farewell party of the Schubert League on July 12, 1900 in Weigl's Dreher Park on the occasion of the Paris trip of the federal government.

A major event was the Ninth Federal Festival of the Association of Workers' Choral Societies of Lower Austria on July 1, 1900 in Weigl's Dreher Park (38 clubs - 1500 singers) - music was played by the reinforced W. Zit band

Eduard Kremser also recommended Wenzel Zit to Johann Weigl for his Dreher Park in Meidling. Weekly concerts with the First Vienna Cyclists' Band - also known as monster concerts - were a special attraction for music-loving Viennese for many years. Big New Year's Eve celebrations with this band took place in the Katharinenhalle. On June 4, 1899, a concert by the committee for the erection of a Lanner- Strauss memorial took place in Vienna's Volksgarten . Eduard Kremser entered the stage immediately after the end of a Komzak potpouri and informed the large audience that Johann Strauss had passed away . “The Zit chapel quietly intoned the waltz On the beautiful blue Danube, which was listened to while standing”. Furthermore, compositions by Carl Michael Ziehrer , Komzák, Kremser a. a. Conducted by the composer himself. "The clay pieces were executed in an excellent manner by the Zit chapel".

The "Erste Wiener Lokalanzeiger" reported on March 3rd, 1900 under the heading of ball news about the event for the upcoming farewell of the IR 4 Hoch- und Deutschmeister to Mostar / Herzegovina. At the head of the festival committee was Regimentstambour Wilhelm Zit (son of Kapellmeister Wenzel Zit). You could also read about this festival on March 4, 1900 in the newspaper "Die Reichswehr". Franz Lehár , Scharff, Wilhelm Wacek (1864 - 1944, Austrian Kapellmeister) and Wenzel Zit were among the bandmasters present .

On July 1, 1900, a celebration of the printing assistants on the occasion of the 500th birthday of Johannes Gutenberg took place in the Großer Musikvereinssaal . "Kapellmeister Zit opened it with his orchestra, and probably spurred on by the endeavor to meet the requirements of this place dedicated to the highest art, the musicians of the Zit Kapelle did a very good job."

On April 5, 1903, a benefit concert was held for the long-time music director in Weigl's Dreherpark. Have u. a. Prof. Eduard Kremser, and CMZiehrer conducts his own compositions. There were also new songs accompanied by the Piston Duo Tyle and Wilhelm Zit (son of Wenzel Zit). Wilhelm Zit also conducted several pieces for his father.

On August 15, 1895, a large double concert by the First Vienna Cyclists' Band and the local spa band took place in Bad Vöslau on the Vöslauer Waldwiese. The occasion was the birthday of Emperor Franz Josef I (* August 18, 1830, † November 21, 1916). For the same reason, a concert was held in Baden under the direction of Karl Komzak.
