Helléan ( Breton : Helean , Gallo: Hélian ) is a French commune with 375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Morbihan department in Brittany .
geography
Helléan is located in the northeast of the Morbihan department and belongs to the Pays de Josselin.
Neighboring communities are La Grée-Saint-Laurent and Saint-Malo-des-Trois-Fontaines in the north, Taupont in the east and south-east, Guillac in the south and La Croix-Helléan in the west.
The place itself is only on side streets. The D169 and D129 cross in the village. The most important regional road connection for the municipality is the D8 a few kilometers further east. The N 24 runs just a few kilometers to the south , where the closest connection, La Pyramide, is important for Helléan.
The most important bodies of water are the Ninian River and the Digoët and Galourais streams . These partially form the municipal boundary. There are also some small ponds in the municipality. A significant part of the community area is covered by forest areas. The largest forest area is the Bois Digoët .

history
Historically, the municipality belongs to the Breton region of Bro-Sant-Maloù (French: Pays de Saint-Malo) and within this region to the Porc'hoed (French: Porhoët) area and shares its history. From 1801 until its dissolution on September 10, 1926, it belonged to the Arrondissement of Ploërmel. From 1793 to 1801 Helléan belonged to the canton of Lanouée. Since then, the municipality has been assigned to the canton of Josselin.
