Clara Vespermann (born April 13, 1799 in Au , † March 6, 1827 in Munich ; born Clara Metzger , also Clara Metzger-Vespermann ) was a German singer ( soprano ).

Life

As a child she performed at the Munich Court Theater . The conductor and composer Peter von Winter trained her in singing and took her into his family as a foster daughter . In 1816 she made her debut at the court opera at the German premiere of the opera Zaira , which premiered in London in winter 1805, and was an immediate success.

On February 28, 1817 she sang in the world premiere of Winter's Maometto II and on May 7, 1821 in that of Johann Kaspar Aiblinger's Rodrigo and Ximene . Guest tours have taken her to the Berlin Court Opera , the Dresden Court Opera and the Leipzig Opera House . At La Scala in Milan , she gave a guest performance on December 26, 1817 in the world premiere of Peter von Winter's opera I due Valdomiri .

From 1819 she continued her career at the Munich Court Opera. On April 5, 1822, she sang the role of "Agathe" in the Munich premiere of Der Freischütz . The composer Carl Maria von Weber then described her achievement as "unique and unattainable".

Vespermann was married to the baritone Wilhelm Vespermann (1784–1834) and was the mother of the writer Maria Vespermann (1823–1886). On March 6, 1827, a stroke ended her life at the age of 27.
