Georg Jöstingmeier (born October 9, 1905 in Hagen ; † August 28, 1994 in Münster ) was a lawyer and state politician for the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Live and act

Jöstingmeier studied law , economics and philosophy in Münster. He first entered the judicial service and was a brief magistrate in 1932. From 1932 he worked as a lawyer and from 1946 also as a notary. Jöstingmeier specialized in administrative law.

On behalf of Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen , he defended priests and members of the order during the Nazi era . As a result, he himself came under suspicion of political unreliability and experienced multiple house searches by the Gestapo . During the Second World War , he was a department head in the military district administration in Münster between 1941 and 1943 and a department head in the road traffic department in Münster from 1944 to 1946. In April 1945 the Americans temporarily appointed him mayor of the village of Marmecke near Oberhundem . Since the village of Marmecke belonged to the district of the political municipality of Oberhundem, the function of a mayor in Marmecke was actually to be regarded as that of a local attendant, as the district administrator of the Olpe district, Dr. Spies, in his order to continue the administration of April 24, 1945.

Jöstingmeier was a member of the Center Party until 1933 . After 1945 he played an important role in founding the CDU. During the war he had already spoken to Bishop von Galen about a non-denominational Christian party. On September 2, 1945, he was one of the keynote speakers at the founding party conference of the Westphalian CDU in Bochum . In the following years Jöstinghaus repeatedly advised Konrad Adenauer on various issues. He was a board member of the Westphalian CDU and chairman of the party in the Münster administrative region . He was also a member of the constitutional committee of the CDU and CSU working group .

In Münster he was mainly involved in the reconstruction of the city. Among other things, he was able to contribute significantly to the financing of the new theater building.

Jöstingmeier was a member of the Provincial Council for Westphalia in 1946 and the appointed Landtag for North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946 and 1947 . He was then directly elected member of the state parliament for Münster-Stadt until 1958. He then retired from active politics for professional reasons.
