There is evidence of a chapel in Marmecke as early as the 17th century. School lessons were also given in it until 1859. The current church was built in 1903. It is consecrated to St. Antonius the Hermit .

Around 1700 a winter school was set up in Marmecke, attended by eleven children. Craftsmen or other people who are somewhat versed in reading, writing and arithmetic are hired as teachers. From 1820 there is a permanent teacher and from 1859 there is even a school house with a teacher's apartment. In 1908, a new schoolhouse was built, in which classes were held until the school was closed in 1966.
