The transporting enterprises Westphalia south GmbH , shortly VWS , formerly transport companies Westphalia south AG is a near transport companies in the districts of Siegen-Wittgenstein and Olpe . It is a participant in the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Westfalen-Süd and has been owned by RWS Regionalverkehr Westfalen-Süd GmbH since 2012 .

history

Verkehrsbetriebe Westfalen-Süd was established on January 12, 1970, when the entire bus service of the Siegen Kreisbahn was spun off and incorporated into Kraftverkehr Olpe. At the same time the name of the company was changed accordingly. Although the Kreisbahn was the larger partner, the company remained registered in the commercial register in Olpe , but the company's headquarters were moved from Olpe to Siegen. Two thirds of the shares in the AG were the Siegener Kreisbahn, 27.67% the Olpe district and 5.67% the city of Lennestadt .

Later the share of the city of Lennestadt was transferred to the district of Olpe , so that it held a third of all shares. In the summer of 2005, both shareholders sold VWS in full to the public transport company of Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB) with retroactive effect from January 1 for 3.3 million euros . In 2005, Stadtwerke Bonn owned a change of legal form from a stock corporation to a limited liability company .

On November 19, 2008, SWB Bus und Bahn advertised VWS for sale. On February 26, 2009 it was announced that the SWB had sold VWS retrospectively to January 1, 2009 to Transdev SZ from Neuwied . In the following months, the company headquarters of Transdev SZ was gradually relocated to Siegen in the Marienhütte.

At the beginning of March 2011, the parent company Transdev merged with the French transport group Veolia Transport to form Veolia Transdev .

In July 2012 it was announced that Veolia had sold its shares in the VWS parent company Transdev SZ to the Siegen-based company Regionalverkehr Westfalen-Süd (RWS), which is part of the Wern Group. In a release contract, however, all of Transdev's subsidiaries, with the exception of VWS and the subsidiary Suerlänner, went to Veolia. The sales talks began in September 2011. It was agreed that the 227 employees could keep their jobs until 2018 thanks to a job guarantee. The contract for the current license will end in 2018.

Local transport plans

Due to the improvement in profitability, the Zweckverband Personennahverkehr Westfalen Süd created new local transport plans for the responsible districts in 2016. When the new line was created, lines were combined into packages. The packages were advertised individually.

In 2017, VWS alone acquired the concessions for the central (Siegen area), east (Wittgensteiner Land), south (Neunkirchen and Burbach), north-west (Olpe) and north-east (Lennestadt area) packages.

Depots

The main administration of Verkehrsbetriebe Westfalen-Süd is located in the Eiserfeld district of Siegen . The largest volume of vehicles is also there.

VWS maintains other operating locations in Bad Laasphe , Drolshagen , Lennestadt-Altenhundem , Netphen-Deuz , Olpe and Wilnsdorf, among others .

In the past, the company parted with the wagon hall in Hilchenbach- Dahlbruch, which was not used as such by VWS. In November 1996, the transport company took over the Schmidt bus company located there, which held the concession on today's R11 line between Kreuztal and Hilchenbach. Shortly after the takeover, the depot was closed and the property was rented out. When the timetable changed on December 22, 2003, the Buschhütten depot was closed. After the takeover of VWS by SWB, the Büschergrund depot near Freudenberg was closed in April 2006. Vehicles and drivers are now on duty from Siegen, and occasionally drivers have been transferred to other offices on request.

The car shed in Kreuztal-Krombach has now been leased to Kraftverkehr Alchetal , which also drives on behalf of VWS.
