Geographical location

Schwartmecke lies on a saddle on the southwest slope of the 622 m high Heisterberg. The landscape in the immediate vicinity of the village is mainly characterized by meadows and pastures, while in the wider area, spruce forest predominates, especially in the high areas.

The closest places are Oberhundem 1 km southeast, Stelborn 1 km northwest, Erlhof 1 km and Selbecke 1.5 km west.

history

The oldest written mention of Schwartmecke that has survived goes back to the end of the 15th century, when a list of goods and property that had come to Johan van Ole listed "... item ute dem gude thor Swortbeke wellet 1 mal karns ...". The treasury registers from 1565 already list three goods, some of which are further divided up in the following centuries.

From around the 19th century, some kötter settle . At the end of the 20th century there was a lot of new building activity, which allowed the place to grow to its present size.

Schwartmecke is located on Kreisstraße  21, which leads from Landesstraße  553 via Selbecke, Erlhof, Stelborn and Schwartmecke in Oberhundem back to the L 553. The VWS bus line R36 runs several times a day .
