- January 17th : Start of the largest strike to date on the Ruhr , in which up to 225,000 miners take part. The strike was canceled on February 9th
- April 1 : With the Prussian Water Act, the construction of the Mittelland Canal is decided.
- July 23 : Meeting of Kaiser Wilhelm II with Tsar Nicholas II in Björkö; a planned alliance treaty is not ratified by either country, so that the German Reich does not succeed in breaking Russia out of the alliance with France .

Russia / Japan
- January 2 : The Russian fortress of Port Arthur surrenders to Japanese troops after a 157-day siege . The loss of the port and thus one of the most important bases of operations of the Russians destroys the plans to unite the 1st and 2nd Pacific Squadrons and is considered to be decisive for Russia's defeat in the Russo-Japanese War .
- January 22nd : On St.Petersburg Bloody Sunday , soldiers solve a star march to the Tsar's palace of more than 30,000 people under the leadership of the Orthodox priest Father Georgi Gapon , who peacefully demonstrate for more humane operating conditions, agricultural reforms, abolition of censorship and religious tolerance as well as the creation of a representative body , brutally on. The number of fatalities varies between 130 and over 1000. The 1905 Russian Revolution begins.
