  • January 2 : The Russian fortress of Port Arthur surrenders to Japanese troops after a 157-day siege . The loss of the port and thus one of the most important bases of operations of the Russians destroys the plans to unite the 1st and 2nd Pacific Squadrons and is considered to be decisive for Russia's defeat in the Russo-Japanese War .

  • January 22nd : On St.Petersburg Bloody Sunday , soldiers solve a star march to the Tsar's palace of more than 30,000 people under the leadership of the Orthodox priest Father Georgi Gapon , who peacefully demonstrate for more humane operating conditions, agricultural reforms, abolition of censorship and religious tolerance as well as the creation of a representative body , brutally on. The number of fatalities varies between 130 and over 1000. The 1905 Russian Revolution begins.
