Heinz Lieberich

Heinz Lieberich (born January 29, 1905 in Kaiserslautern ; † October 24, 1999 in Mosbach ) was a German legal historian and archivist .

Life

The son of a lawyer studied law in Munich and received his doctorate in 1928 with a dissertation on international law on the Russian commercial agency in Germany. During his studies he became a member of the AGV Munich . After passing the Second State Examination in 1930, Lieberich decided on a career in archives. After attending the Bavarian Archive School, he became an archive assessor at the Landesarchiv Speyer . From 1938 he worked as State Archives Councilor in Munich, and in 1949 he became State Archives Director at the Bavarian Main State Archives .

From 1945 to 1985 he taught legal history at the Bavarian Archive School . From 1959 until his retirement in 1970 he was General Director of the Bavarian State Archives . In 1959 he became a member of the Commission for Bavarian State History . The University of Munich awarded him an honorary professorship for Bavarian legal history.

Lieberich presented numerous source-related works on Bavarian constitutional and legal history. In particular, his study Landlords and Country People was methodologically groundbreaking . On the political leadership of Bavaria in the late Middle Ages from 1964.

Lawyers know the Mitteis-Lieberich , a study book on German legal history. Lieberich also continued the textbook on German private law started by Heinrich Mitteis .
