The Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences is an academy institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . It was founded in 1927 and has an unspecified number of members (currently 65), most of whom work as professors for Bavarian history at universities, as directors of the Bavarian State Archives and other central research institutions. The Institute for Folklore and the Swabian Research Center Augsburg are affiliated.

The commission plans and coordinates large-scale long-term research on the history of Old Bavaria , Franconia and Bavarian Swabia . The most important projects are the Historical Atlas of Bavaria (HAB) and the Historical Place Name Book of Bavaria (HONB), with which the historical development of today's Free State of Bavaria from the beginnings to the present is to be processed across the board.
