Marlin Perkins

Marlin Perkins (born March 28, 1905 in Carthage , Missouri , † June 14, 1986 in Clayton , Missouri) was an American zoologist and zoo director .

Life

Marlin Perkins' career began at the St. Louis Zoo , where he initially worked as a simple worker and from 1928 as a curator . He later moved to the zoos in Buffalo (1938–1944) and Chicago (1944–1962) as director . From 1962 to 1970 he was director of the St. Louis Zoo.

In 1960 he took part as a zoologist on Edmund Hillary's expedition to the Himalayas to investigate clues about the Yeti . He identified the yeti's alleged footprints as the footprints of smaller animals (e.g. foxes) enlarged by snowmelt.

From 1952 to 1957 he was the presenter of the television series Zoo Parade . International He gained fame through his television series Wild Kingdom ( Wild Kingdom ), which he chaired from 1963 to 1,985 and produced. The series was also known as Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom (after the series sponsor, Mutual of Omaha insurance company ).

Perkins died of malignant lymphoma on June 14, 1986 at the age of 81 .
