Ettore Cunial

Ettore Cunial (born November 16, 1905 in Possagno , Province of Treviso , Italy ; † October 6, 2005 ibid) was a Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Ettore Cunial received on 7 July 1929 Archbishop Andrea Giacinto Longhin Bonaventura the priesthood for the Diocese of Treviso . In 1953 he was appointed titular archbishop of Soteropolis and auxiliary bishop in Rome . He was ordained bishop on May 17, 1953 by Clemente Micara , Cardinal Bishop of Velletri ; Co- consecrators were Antonio Mantiero , Bishop of Treviso, and Archbishop Luigi Traglia . From 1960 to 1972 Ettore Cunial was Vice-Dean of the Diocese of Rome .

Ettore Cunial was born by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Vice Camerlengo (Vice Chamberlain) in 1976. Cunial resigned from office only a few weeks before his 99th birthday, although the official retirement age for members of the Roman Curia is 75. In October 2004 Pope John Paul II accepted the request for retirement. He was succeeded by Archbishop Paolo Sardi .

After the death of Cardinal Corrado Bafile in 2005, he was the oldest living bishop of the Roman Catholic Church.
