Luigi Traglia
Luigi Cardinal Traglia (born April 3, 1895 in Albano Laziale , Italy , † November 22, 1977 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
As a seminarist at the Almo Collegio Capranica , Luigi Traglia studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Rome . He received on 10 August 1917 by Cardinal Vicar Basilio Pompili the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a lecturer at the Pontifical Athenaeum "De Propaganda Fide" . In addition, he worked for the Curia from 1927 , with the focus of his work in the field of seminaries and Catholic universities. In 1930 he became assessor of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . On February 22, 1932 Pope Pius XI gave him the title of House Prelate of His Holiness , and from September 17, 1936 he worked as an auditor for the Roman Rota .
Pope Pius XI appointed him in 1936 titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Palestine and vice-gentleman for the diocese of Rome . The episcopal ordination received by Cardinal Luigi Traglia Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani , the Cardinal Vicar of Rome; Co- consecrators were Angelo Calabretta , Bishop of Noto , and Domenico Spolverini , Titular Archbishop of Larissa in Thessalia and Rector of the Pontifical Roman Seminary . Pope Pius XII appointed Luigi Traglia President of the Special Commission for the Marian Holy Year 1953. In 1959 he headed the Commission for the Roman Synod as President .
Pope John XXIII took him on March 28, 1960 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Andrea della Valle in the college of cardinals . Luigi Traglia took part in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 , was Cardinal Vicar of the Pope for the Diocese of Rome from 1965 to 1968 and became Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church in 1968 . In 1969 he changed his cardinal title to that of the titular church of San Lorenzo in Damaso . In 1972 he was raised to Cardinal Bishop of Albano . In 1973 he resigned from his position as Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church, which was not reoccupied thereafter. He was elected Cardinal Dean in 1974 and was awarded the associated title of Cardinal Bishop of Ostia .
He died on November 22, 1977 in Rome and was first buried in the Campo Verano cemetery there. In 1982 his remains were transferred to the Roman basilica of San Lorenzo in Damaso .
