Amleto Giovanni Cardinal Cicognani (born February 24, 1883 in Brisighella , Province of Ravenna , Italy ; † December 17, 1973 in Vatican City ) was Cardinal Secretary of State and Cardinal Dean of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Cicognani studied at the seminary to Faenza and received on 23 September 1905 by the Bishop of Faenza , Gioachino Cantagalli , the ordination . He continued his studies in Rome until 1910 , where he received his doctorate in Catholic theology , philosophy and canon law .

From May 10, 1910, he worked as an official at the Congregation for the Order of the Sacraments , and on March 28, 1917, he became the Pope's secret chamberlain , who on May 19, 1923 appointed him papal house prelate .
