Domenico Cardinal Tardini (born February 29, 1888 in Rome ; † July 30, 1961 there ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Domenico Tardini received his theological and philosophical training at the Pontifical Roman Seminary of Rome and received on 20 September 1912, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked in Rome in the training of priests. In 1921 he entered the service of the Vatican and worked there in the Department of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. From 1923 to 1929 he was the ecclesiastical assistant of the Catholic youth organizations of Italy ( Azione Cattolica ). In 1929 Pope Pius XI appointed him . as Undersecretary, 1937 as Secretary of the Curial Department for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. On July 2, 1937, Pius XI awarded him. also the honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary . From 1935 Domenico Tardini also worked for the Vatican State Secretariat . Pope Pius XII appointed him in 1952 alongside Giovanni Battista Montini as Pro-State Secretary for Ordinary Affairs, Pro-State Secretary for Extraordinary Church Affairs, and in 1953 wanted to admit him to the College of Cardinals , which Domenico Tardini declined out of modesty.

Pope John XXIII appointed him on November 17, 1958 Cardinal Secretary of State and at the same time Archpriest of the Vatican Patriarchal Basilica of St. Peter , Prefect of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs and Prefect of the Congregation for the Builders' Hut of St. Peter .

On December 14 of the same year, John XXIII appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Laodicea in Syria , it took a day after the cardinal deacon with the title Diakonie Sant'apollinare Alle Terme Neroniane-Alessandrine in the College of Cardinals and gave him on 27 December of the same year the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Girolamo Bartolomeo Bortignon , Bishop of Padua , and Gioacchino Muccin , Bishop of Feltre and Belluno .

Domenico Tardini died on July 30, 1961 in Rome and was buried in the church of the Carmelite monastery of Vetralla . In 1980 the association "Community Domenico Tardini" , which was founded, was named after him.
