Order of San Raimundo de Penafort.

The Order of San Raimundo de Penafort ( es. Orden de la Cruz de San Raimundo de Peñafort ) was founded by decree on January 23, 1944 by the Spanish head of state Francisco Franco and is awarded for services to the advancement of the legal system and justice. The Ministry of Justice awards them to nationals and foreigners. The order is named after the Catholic canon law scholar Raimondo de Peñafort , who was canonized by Pope Clement VII in 1601 .

Order classes

The order consists of five classes and an associated medal, which is divided into four levels:

  • Grand Cross
  • Cross of Honor
  • Commander 1st and 2nd class
  • Knight
  • San Raimundo de Penafort medal
    • Gold medal with enamel
    • Silver medal with enamel
    • Bronze medal with silver
    • Bronze medal

Order decoration

The medal is a white enameled Maltese cross with small spheres on the cross tips. The first two classes are made of gold, all others are made of silver. With the exception of the fifth grade, all crosses have a small loop between the cross arms. The cross bears the portrait of the saint in the center, which is enclosed by a blue enameled band with the inscription IN JURE MERITA (Merits in jurisprudence). The inscription S. RAYMUNDOS PENNAFORTI can also be found on the vertical arms of the cross .

The medal is an octagonal medallion. The obverse is divided into two halves and is enclosed by the inscription CRVZ DE SAN RAYMUNDO DE PENAFORT - MINISTERIO DE JUSTICIA ( Medal of Honor San Raimundos de Penafort - Ministry of Justice). A name band with the inscription CONSTANTIA ET VIRTUTE (steadfastness and loyalty) runs horizontally in the middle . In the upper half you can see Raimundo's picture as he walks from Mallorca to Barcelona. The lower half shows the scales of Justitia . On the reverse is the inscription INSIGNI DOCTORI SANCTO RAYMUNDUS PENNAFORTI PRINCIPI IN JURIS STUDIO ET EMINENTI HISPANIAE FILIO HONOREM REDDITUR AC VENERATIONEM - VICTOR - 23 D. ENERO 1944 (With the honorary badge of the teacher San Raimundo de Pemena respect and honor are given - winner - January 23, 1944).

Carrying method

The Grand Cross is worn on a collar and sash from the right shoulder to the left hip and with a breast star . Holders of the Cross of Honor wear a silver collar and a breast star. The commander's cross I and II class is decorated as a neck medal and the first class is additionally decorated with a breast star. The knight's cross and the individual levels of the medal are worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.

The ribbon is crimson with narrow blue borders.
