The administration of goods of the Apostolic See ( Latin Administratio Patrimonii Sedis Apostolicae , APSA for short ) is a dicastery , an authority of the Roman Curia , which is responsible for the Treasury and the Central Bank of the Vatican City and the Holy See . Together with the Apostolic Chamber and the Prefecture for Economic Affairs of the Holy See , it belongs to the Papal Offices. The SWIFT code is APDEVAVAXXX.
overview
Pope Paul VI founded the dicastery in 1967 by amalgamating various previous offices, u. a. the special administration of the Holy See founded in 1929 . This administered the compensation sum of 1.75 billion lire, which the Kingdom of Italy had transferred to the Vatican on the basis of the Lateran Treaty .
The tasks of this prefecture include the financing of the administration of the whole church. It includes both the ordinary department for cash liquidity and property management and the extraordinary department for capital investments (securities assets ).
The management of this dicastery is always reserved for a cardinal . Other cardinals and a secretary are at his side to help him cope with his duties. Nunzio Galantino has been the head of the prefecture since 2018 .
In the course of an investigation against the prelate Nunzio Scarano , the APSA came under suspicion of illegal financial transactions.
With a Motu Proprio dated July 9, 2014, Pope Francis transferred the tasks of the ordinary department of property management and real estate to the Economic Secretariat . The tasks previously performed by the extraordinary department remain with the APSA. The functions of the APSA are thus those of a treasury and the central bank of the Holy See and the Vatican City.
