Domenico Cardinal Calcagno (born February 3, 1943 in Parodi Ligure , Province of Alessandria , Italy ) is an Italian Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

After studying the Humanities at the Seminary of Genoa Domenico Calcagno was for further studies to Rome sent. He graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University with a degree in dogmatics . On June 29, 1967, Calcagno received the sacrament of ordination through Cardinal Giuseppe Siri .

He was then director of the Commission for Mission and Cooperation between Churches and an economist at the Italian Bishops' Conference. He is a member of the Order of Constantine , a secular knightly order made up of Roman Catholic members.

On 25 January 2002 appointed him Pope John Paul II. The bishop of Savona-Noli . He is a member of the Cardinal Commission of the Istituto per le Opere di Religione, succeeding Cardinal Nicora (since 2013)

On June 26, 2018, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation from the office of President of the Property Administration of the Apostolic See.

Private

Domenico Calcagno has a private collection of 13 firearms that have been registered with the competent authority of Savona and that already existed before the move to the Vatican, but are not kept there.

Infidelity investigation

In May 2016, the Savona Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into Calcagno for embezzlement, “this case is still ongoing.
