Paolo Cardinal Romeo (born February 20, 1938 in Acireale , Province of Catania , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and retired Archbishop of Palermo .

Life

Paolo Romeo, the fifth of nine children, studied Catholic theology and philosophy first at the seminary in Acireale, later as a seminarian at the Almo Collegio Capranica also theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He received his doctorate in canon law from Lateran University . On March 18, 1961, he received the sacrament of ordination . He worked as a priest in Rome , among other things as a supervisor of a scout group .

In 1967, Paolo Romeo entered the service of the Holy See and was supported by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on January 3, 1968 .
