history

Through the Motu proprio Inde a Pontificatus John Paul II of March 25, 1993, the Council for Culture with the 1965 of Paul VI. created Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers while retaining its name.

Pope Benedict XVI with the Motu proprio Pulchritudinis fidei (“The Beauty of Faith”) incorporated the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Assets of the Church into the Pontifical Council for Culture with effect from November 3, 2012 .

Pope Francis accepted new members on March 29, 2014 and confirmed existing memberships.

Gianfranco Ravasi has set up the new advisory body for 2019 to 2021. Under the direction of the sociology professor Consuelo Corradi, 21 women entrepreneurs, diplomats, actresses, civil servants and scientists belong to a «women’s consultation group». Non-believers are represented as well as members of other religions, including the Iranian theologian Shahrazad Houshmand . Other members include, for example, the Google manager Giorgia Abeltino, the fashion entrepreneur Lavinia Biagiotti, the chairwoman of the board of directors of the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital Mariella Enoc, the Franciscan Maria Domenica Melone , first rector of a Pontifical University in Rome. There are plans to set up a dedicated group of young people.
