Denis Hart

Denis James Hart (born May 16, 1941 in Melbourne ) is an Australian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne .

Life

The Bishop of Sale , Arthur Francis Fox , ordained him a priest on August 23, 1975 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Vagada and Auxiliary Bishop in Melbourne on November 10, 1997 . The Archbishop of Melbourne, George Pell , donated him episcopal ordination on December 9 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Hilton Forrest Deakin , Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, and Thomas Francis Little , Senior Archbishop of Melbourne.

He was named Archbishop of Melbourne on June 22, 2001, and was introduced to the office on August 1 of the same year.

On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 29, 2018.
