Martin Tingvall (* 1974 in Tomelilla ) is a Swedish jazz pianist and songwriter .

Live and act

Tingvall grew up in Skåne, Sweden , and attended a music high school there. In the Heimvolkshochschule of Skurup , he continued, and then studied at the Academy of Music Malmö jazz piano, composition and improvisation. Tingvall u. a. by the Swedish jazz pianist Bobo Stenson . In between, he completed a semester abroad in the Netherlands, at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen . In 1999 he completed his studies in Malmö. Then he moved to Hamburg, where he worked with Udo Lindenberg , Gunter Gabriel , Inga Rumpf , Baschi and Mandy Capristo , for example .

In 2003 Tingvall founded the Tingvall Trio , led by him, together with bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo and drummer Jürgen Spiegel , for which he composed all pieces. The trio, which has been awarded the ECHO Jazz three times , has successfully established itself internationally. Occasionally he also played in the Tim Rodig Group. He has also presented three piano solo albums so far. The youngest of these albums, The Rocket , hit number one on the German jazz charts in July 2019 .

Tingvall also writes film music ( Year of the Dragon , 2012; Tatort: ​​Eine Another Welt and Tatort: ​​Scheinwelten , 2013) as well as songs for other artists and also produces them.

In 2019 he received the German Music Author Award in the Jazz / Crossover composition category .
