The Tingvall Trio is an international jazz trio . It consists of the Swedish pianist Martin Tingvall , the Cuban double bass player Omar Rodriguez Calvo and the German drummer Jürgen Spiegel . All band members state Hamburg as their adopted home and place of work.

Special features of the trio

All of the trio's pieces are compositions by the namesake Martin Tingvall, who, according to his own account, prefers to write the music in the seclusion of his hometown Snarestad in the southern Swedish municipality of Ystad . Many pieces show a melodiousness typical of Scandinavian jazz and borrow from current rock and pop music . A comparison of the Tingvall Trio with similarly acting jazz formations, such as the Esbjörn Svensson Trio , is therefore often drawn. However, the Tingvall Trio gains in individuality simply through the different countries of origin of its members. For example, the Cuban bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo's play is influenced by Latin American influences , while Jürgen Spiegel's drumming is based on Western rock music.

So far, the trio has released the studio albums Skagerrak (2006), Norr (2008), Vattensaga (2009), Vägen (2011), Beat (2014) and Cirklar (2017). On April 5, 2013, the live album In Concert was released. October 2012 in Bad Wörishofen and Innsbruck .
