Jürgen Spiegel (* between January 19 and February 17, 1972 in Bremen ) is a German drummer and music producer .

Live and act

Spiegel learned to play the drums at the age of nine; at the age of 16 the piano was added. After studying at the HFK Bremen in 1992/93, he moved to the Prince Claus Royal Conservatory in Groningen , which he attended from 1993 to 1998. In 1998 he was awarded the VSB scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music in Holland . He completed the pop course at the HFBK Hamburg in 1996 in the field of jazz . Between 1999 and 2003 Spiegel recorded several rock albums with Michael Kiske , including a. Readiness to Sacrifice (1999) and 2003 with Kiskes own band Supared .

Due to his activity in rock music, he played at German rock festivals such as Rock am Ring or Hurricane.

Since 2003 he has been part of the Tingvall Trio with pianist Martin Tingvall and bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo , with whom he toured worldwide. He also played with Kurt Elling , Yari Carissi and Dominic Miller . From 2006 to 2009 he worked with the Nigerian hip-hop / soul singer Nneka . In 2008, Spiegel composed and produced themed music for the Al Jazeera broadcaster , thereby attracting attention in the United Emirates . In 2009 the CD Dubai Nights (Virgin) compositions with Arab Bedouins were produced . In 2018 he founded a duo with the pianist Vladislav Sendecki under the name Sendecki & Spiegel .

Spiegel's wife Aino Löwenmark is active as a musician in the folk-pop band Fjarill .

Prizes and awards

Jürgen Spiegel received the German music award ECHO Jazz with the Tingvall Trio 2010 in the category Ensemble of the Year national with the Tingvall Trio. In 2011 he was also awarded the Hamburg Music Prize HANS with the Tingvall Trio in the Hamburg Production of the Year category. In 2012, he and this trio received the German ECHO Jazz music award twice, both in the national ensemble of the year category and as live act of the year.
