Michael Kiske (born January 24, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German singer and guitarist .

Life

Before his musical career, Kiske began an apprenticeship as a locksmith, which he broke off. In 1986 he replaced Kai Hansen as a singer with the German power metal band Helloween , who continued to play guitar with Helloween. At Helloween he was featured on the albums Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1 (1987), Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 2 (1988), Pink Bubbles Go Ape (1991) and Chameleon (1993). The two Keeper albums are still among the best-selling metal albums in Germany. After leaving Helloween in 1993, Kiske recorded three solo albums: Instant Clarity (1996), Readiness to Sacrifice (1999) and Kiske (2006). It features rock songs, ballads, and orchestral pieces.

In the 1990s, Kiske began writing essayistic texts on music, morals, religion and society. In 1995 his book Art and Materialism - A Call to the Living , which he wrote at the age of 24, was self-published. As in his writings published online, he shows himself to be a supporter of Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy , which he vehemently defends against critics. He also speaks out against the increasing commercialization of music.

From 2000 to 2002 and in 2007 and 2008 he participated in Tobias Sammet's Avantasia project. In 2003 he was involved in Amanda Somerville's metal opera Days of Rising Doom . In the same year he released a CD with his rock project SupaRed , which, however, had no commercial success. In 2005, Kiske sang the full album of the same name for the Place Vendome project . In February 2009 the follow-up album Streets of Fire was released . Different songwriters were used on this album: Ronny Milianowicz ( Saint Deamon , Primal Fear ...), Torsti Spoof (Leverage), Robert Säll (Work of Art), Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear, Bob Catley) and Larry King from Soleil Moon. In May 2008 he released Past in Different Ways , an album with acoustic versions of the Helloween songs he wrote.

In September 2010 a CD with Kiske and Amanda Somerville was released ; an AOR project initiated by Frontiers Records. Among other things, the musicians Mat Sinner ( Primal Fear , Sinner ) and Magnus Karlsson (Place Vendome, Primal Fear) contributed to this sound carrier. Both Kiske and Somerville were on tour independently of this project in late 2010 with the formation Avantasia . In April 2015, the duo released another album by Mat Sinner under the title City of Heroes produced had been.

In 2009, Kiske founded the band Unisonic with Pink Cream 69 bassist Dennis Ward, Kosta Zafiriou (also with Pink Cream 69) and Mandy Meyer (previously with Gotthard ) . In 2011 Kai Hansen , who had played with Kiske in Helloween until 1988, joined the band. The group released an EP in 2012 , the self-titled album was released on March 30, 2012. Michael Kiske went on a special Christmas Metal Symphony Tour in December 2013 with the Magnum Opum Rockestra under the direction of Marcel Heijnen and Metalforce 1 . Other singers in this project were Udo Dirkschneider , Joey Belladonna , Chuck Billy , Joacim Cans and Floor Jansen .

Kiske was guest singer with Gamma Ray and Masterplan, among others . Michael Kiske has been back on the Pumpkins United tour with Helloween since mid-2017 .
