Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1 is Helloween's second album, on which Michael Kiske took over the vocalsfor the first time. Kai Hansen , the former singer, stayed with the band on guitar. The album was initially planned as a double album. However, this was not supported by the label. That is why it was divided into two parts (Part 1 and Part 2) and published in consecutive years.

The album sold well (around 500,000 units were sold worldwide) and enabled the band to go on their first US tour with Grim Reaper and Armored Saint .
