Armored Saint is an American metal - band from Pasadena , California , which became known in the 1980s. The most famous members are John Bush and Joey Vera .
history
Armored Saint was founded in the early 1980s by singer John Bush and bassist Joey Vera . The band was completed with the two guitarists Phil E. Sandoval and Dave Prichard and the drummer Gonzo Sandoval .
The band's first sign of life was a contribution to the metal sampler Metal Massacre , on whose second edition Armored Saint is represented with the song Lesson Well Learned . Shortly thereafter, an EP was released under the same name. In 1984 the band finally released their debut album March of the Saint via Chrysalis . Armored Saint went on their first US tour as the opening act for WASP and Metallica and shared management with the latter a short time later. When Metallica tried to poach John Bush as a singer, Bush refused.
After the second album Delirious Nomad , which was released in 1985, the guitarist Phil Sandoval left the band for personal reasons. The band continued as a quartet and only accepted Jeff Duncan as the second guitarist after the self-produced Raising Fear (1987) and the live recording of Saints Will Conquer .
Armored Saint lost their record deal with Chrysalis due to insufficient sales, so Symbol of Salvation appeared on Metal Blade in 1991 . Meanwhile, Phil Sandoval was back in the band after Dave Prichard died of leukemia in February 1990 . Armored Saint dedicated the Symbol of Salvation to the late Prichard. Several of his compositions found their way onto the album.
After a tour of Germany in support of the Scorpions , the band broke up in 1992 after singer John Bush accepted the offer to replace Joey Belladonna with Anthrax . After the band left, Joey Vera devoted himself to various projects and dived a. a. as a member of Fates Warning , Tribe After Tribe , Seven Witches and as a live musician with Anthrax .
In the 1992 horror film Hellraiser III by director Anthony Hickox Armored Saint had a guest appearance; in one scene the group plays their song Hanging Judge from the album Symbol of Salvation on the stage of the fictional music club The Boiler Room .
In 2000 the band reformed and recorded a comeback album called Revelation . Another album called Nod to the Old School followed a year later . Both albums received excellent reviews from the press and fans. The band went live on various occasions to promote these albums. The band was also a regular guest at German summer festivals.
In 2010 the comeback La Raza appeared again . It was voted album of the month in Rock Hard magazine and was also placed in the charts for the first time in Germany. In 2015, Win Hands Down was followed by another album that received much attention from the trade press. It was also voted album of the month by Rock Hard magazine . It also received very positive reviews in Rocks and Metal Hammer .
