Tomelilla is a place ( tätort ) in the Province County Skåne and the historic province of Scania . It is the capital of the municipality of the same name .
history
Until the opening of the railway line from Ystad to Eslöv in 1866, the place was still a village, after which it slowly began to grow until it was finally raised to a minority town (köping) in 1921 . Until the closings in the 1960s and 1970s, the place was an important railway junction with connections in five directions. What remains are the routes to Malmö (drives via Ystad) and Simrishamn . With the electrification of the line, Pågatåg has also been traveling to Tomelilla since 2003 . Diesel locomotives were previously used and the line was operated under the name Österlenaren .
Gas extraction
The Shell concern plans to produce natural gas in the Tomelilla municipality . Protests by a citizens' initiative are directed against this.
